The UN Deputy Secretary-General, Mrs. Amina J. Mohammed, has praised the young innovators and their groundbreaking projects at UNIPOD, highlighting how these developments demonstrate that Africans can define their own narratives.
Mrs. Mohammed made this observation during her visit to UNIPOD on September 5, 2024.
During her visit, Mrs. Mohammed toured various laboratories and learned about the different innovations being developed. She expressed her admiration for the ongoing projects and emphasized the importance of Africans shaping their own stories, rather than relying on external aid. The focus is on creating genuine partnerships and fostering innovation within Africa to drive economic growth and development.
“Africa should not be viewed through the lens of hunger, conflict, or gender-based violence,” Mrs. Mohammed stated. “We must change this narrative.” She added that she believes both governments and the private sector will recognize the value of investing in young people.
Mrs. Mohammed also highlighted the importance of Africans standing tall, being proud, and taking ownership of their future by leveraging local resources and opportunities. She stressed the need for strong institutions and leadership at all levels to support this transformation.
